Julia Gagnon was born to a Guatemalan couple in 2003, but adopted by Meg Gagnon and Jim Gagnon, an American family in Maine. Her parents abandoned her in an orphanage. Julia’s real mother (Sara Ramos) and father are from Guatemala. Gagnon was always curious about her birth mom and family. Meg Gagnon hired a private investigator in 2020 to find Julia’s birth mother, Sara.
Julia says, “I was born in Guatemala. When I was two years old, I was adopted out of the orphanage and brought to Maine. Growing up in Maine, …when I have found my life support and that is my family.”
She adds, “I did find them. My birth mom wrote me a letter. She thanked God that my parents raised me for her, but she was very apologetic … she would love to live to see me do something big.”

Julia Gagnon’s performance on American Idol
Gagnon auditioned for the American Idol 2024 by singing “Ain’t No Way” by Aretha Franklin. She got three big yes votes and the final platinum ticket from the judges. She also sang Adele’s song “Rumor Has It.” She got a standing ovation from the judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.
Richie says, “Did that come out of your mouth? I am in shock. I grew up with Aretha Franklin. There are certain songs you just don’t sing. Because you can’t touch the original. You just made it not only your song, but you did things that were just beyond. That was amazing. That was outstanding.”
